Controls, Inc.'s (CI) core competency lies with microprocessor-based digital control products. Maintaining complete design control, all products are designed in-house. This includes circuit board design and firmware development through final product assembly. Each proprietary control "platform" is designed for flexibility that can be adapted to various control product requirements. As an example, the same platform can be utilized as an engine control on an SAE J1939 off-highway engine or a climate control for a heating/cooling system.

This approach allows for both standard control products as well as unique control solutions for specific applications. CI has also designed a number of customer/application specific platforms for situations where existing platforms cannot be applied. Each new circuit platform increases our ability to provide control solutions. When combined with our firmware development capabilities, cost effective, application specific control products are within reach for any size customer. Some of the higher level platforms are similar to PLC in terms of features and functions. The key difference is CI provides a complete turn-key product for your application that is ready to plug in and use.

CI's initial markets were generator control and then engine control products. Our products have evolved with advances in engine technology and our knowledge of engines, generators, electronics and related components allows us to understand the needs of customers in these markets and provide cost effective, application specific solutions.

As an example, as EPA emission standards have progressed in the off-highway diesel engine market, more engines have been equipped with ECU/ECM's (Engine Control Units/Modules) to manage engine functionality and communicate via the SAE J1939 CAN Bus. This transition allowed us to leverage our existing technology and competencies to communicate directly with engine ECU and implement new and better control products with features and capabilities that today are considered standard, but were unthinkable as standard only years ago. We are excited to provide better control, more control capabilities and control products focused on specification applications.

Over the last several years, CI has expanded beyond the core generator and engine control markets. From products as simple as the LevelWatch^TMto prevent tank overfills and spills to the sophisticated 1410-000 platform that is in many ways similar to a PLC, CI has implemented a number of control products across a broad range of industrial applications.
